Privacy

This site collects nothing about you. There are no cookies, no analytics, no adverts and no tracking.

What the site stores

Nothing on a server. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is saved in your own browser's storage so the next page opens the same way. The bin days page saves your postcode and address there in the same way. It never leaves your device, and you can clear it with your browser's site data settings. Because it only remembers something you asked for, it does not need a consent banner.

Every file on the site, including images, styles and scripts, comes from rowanchell.com. There are no third-party scripts, fonts or embeds.

The dither tool

Photos you open in the dither tool are processed by your browser. They are not uploaded, saved or seen by anyone else.

Bin days

When you look up bin days, your postcode goes to a small service on rowanchell.com, which asks postcodes.io (opens in a new tab) which council covers it and then asks that council's website for your address list and collection dates. The answers are cached by Cloudflare for up to a day so the councils aren't asked again for every visit. Nothing is logged or kept beyond that, and the councils see the request coming from Cloudflare, not from you.

If you add the dates to your calendar, your calendar app (or its provider, such as Apple or Google) fetches them from rowanchell.com every few hours, using a link that contains your postcode and a number for your address. Only you and your calendar provider have that link, though anyone given it would see the same bin dates. Remove the calendar from your app to stop it.

Hosting

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and reached through Cloudflare, which handles the domain, HTTPS and caching. Both may log technical information such as IP addresses to keep the service running and secure, and Cloudflare may ask your browser to report connection errors. I don't use them to identify or follow visitors. See the GitHub Privacy Statement (opens in a new tab) and Cloudflare's privacy policy (opens in a new tab) for details.

Email

Email to rowanchell.com is handled by Zoho Mail. If you email me, I use your address and message only to reply. I don't add you to any list or pass your details on.

Other sites

Links to GitHub, Redbubble and other sites follow those sites' own privacy policies once you click through.

Who is responsible

I'm Rowan Chell, and I'm responsible for any personal data the site handles. Bin days uses your postcode and address because you asked it to find your bin days, and I use your email to reply because you wrote to me. Both rely on legitimate interests under UK data protection law.

GitHub, Cloudflare and Zoho may handle data outside the UK, using their own safeguards for international transfers. Bin days keeps nothing beyond Cloudflare's cache of up to a day. I keep emails only as long as I need them to deal with what you wrote about.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete any personal data I hold about you, or object to how it's used, by emailing me. If you're unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (opens in a new tab).
