I'm Rowan, or Pip. I write small software, design prints and logos, and run most of it from a Raspberry Pi or on GitHub. Below: the projects I'm happiest with, designs to buy and made for others, and a toy for making pictures like the ones on this page.

Projects

Finished things you can use or buy.

Design

Prints for t-shirts, cases, notebooks and cushions, sold through my Floppy-Socks (opens in a new tab) shop on Redbubble, then logos and book covers made for other people. The prints are available on other items too.

About

Developer and graphic designer, based in England.

Patch panel, 1 bit, 15 kB.

I prefer software that can be read in an afternoon and run without an account somewhere else. What I build tends to be single-purpose and plain inside: one source file to edit, one service file to read, one data file to back up.

I also work on home automation and connected devices: Home Assistant, CCTV, smart alarms, smart lighting and Raspberry Pis.

The design side covers logos and branding, the prints in the Floppy-Socks shop, and books on Amazon KDP, where I publish paperbacks and hardcovers and do the formatting, covers, listings and keywords.

This site follows the same idea: plain HTML, system fonts, no tracking, and images dithered to a few kilobytes each. I also spend time on search: keywords, meta tags, how a page is organised and how fast it loads.

Dither

Every picture on this site is made of dots in one colour and nothing else, which keeps each one to a few kilobytes. Try it on a photo of your own. It never leaves your device. Open it on its own page.

Floyd–Steinberg passes each pixel's rounding error on to its neighbours. Atkinson passes on only three quarters of it, so highlights stay clean. Ordered dithering compares every pixel with a fixed 4 × 4 pattern.
